Documenting the violations,
protect the survivors.

URVR's SGBV & LGBT+ Program supports cases of rape, domestic violence, forced marriage, sexual exploitation and abuse, and other gender-based violence affecting women, children, and LGBT+ refugees at Nakivale. Every case is received by a field team trained to listen without judgment, regardless of the nature or age of the incident. Documentation is protection.

Every testimony collected helps build a reliable case file that can support a complaint, a medical referral, a report to OPM or UNHCR. Without rigorous documentation, many survivors remain invisible to the authorities who could help them — this is the gap URVR fills on the ground, with both rigor and discretion.

For the first time since I arrived at Nakivale, someone listened to me without judgment. URVR didn't just document my case — they gave me back the belief that I could still be believed.

and How.
🛡️

SGBV Survivors

Safe, confidential intake, immediate documentation of the incident, referral to medical care and psychosocial support, and legal follow-up if the survivor chooses.

🏳️‍🌈

LGBT+ refugeeses

Documentation of persecution or threats related to gender identity or sexual orientation, referral to protection and safe housing solutions, without exposure or disclosure of identity.

📋

Case Documentation

Every case is recorded anonymously, using a unique code rather than a name, stored securely, and used only with the survivor's explicit consent to support legal action or referral.

🏥

Medical Referrals

URVR quickly connects survivors to partner health centers at Nakivale for emergency care, post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and mental health support.

⚖️

Legal Follow-up

For survivors who wish to pursue legal action, URVR supports filing criminal complaints, requesting protection orders, and formal reporting to relevant authorities, OPM, or UNHCR.

🔒

Strict Confidentiality

No name or identifying detail is shared without written consent. Field staff are trained in confidentiality protocols, and all reporting channels (phone, WhatsApp, in person) are secure.

You are
safe with us.

At URVR, every person who comes to us has our guarantee: no information is shared without your explicit consent, you will never be judged, and URVR will never take any action that would expose you to retaliation. You may report an incident completely anonymously if you wish your safety comes before every other consideration.

Stories
of Courage.

As an LGBT+ refugee, I had no one. URVR documented my case, protected me, and helped me access safe housing. They treated me with dignity when others had taken it away.
