Byamungu Ngirimba - Executive Director URVR

Executive Director & Founding Member — URVR
Byamungu Ngirimba is the founding member of Uganda Refugee Voice for Rights and serves as its Executive Director. Born from the lived experience of displacement and the realities of the Great Lakes crisis, the founding vision of URVR reflects a deep commitment to justice, peace, and the protection of the most vulnerable.

As Executive Director, Byamungu leads the day-to-day management of the organization, oversees program implementation, represents URVR in partnerships and negotiations with third parties and the State, and ensures the execution of resolutions of both the General Assembly and the Board of Directors.

Under Byamungu's leadership, URVR has built a structured community organization providing legal aid, SGBV documentation, child protection, civic education, and advocacy services to refugee and host communities at Nakivale Refugee Settlement and across Isingiro District.a human rights defender and refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo. He holds a university degree in Commercial and Administrative Sciences from Institut Supérieur Pédagogique  ISP BUKAVU.Before founding URVR, he worked as an investigative journalist at community radio stations Kamanyola RCKa and Flash FM, then as Investigation Officer for human rights abuses at the Nouvelle Société Civile Congolaise NSCC at its coordination office, and as a teacher in several schools in kamanyola.Driven by his personal experience as a refugee and his deep commitment to justice, he established URVR at Nakivale Refugee Settlement to give refugees a voice and ensure their rights are protected.We are here to help.Reach out to us for legal aid, protection assistance, or partnership inquiries.
